Byzantium, Βυζάντιον in Greek, was an ancient city in Greece, which was named after the king Byzas. The city became the center of the Greek-speaking Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, when Constantine envisioned the city. The capital of the Byzantine Empire, was Constantinople.
